Motivational Mom of the Month - Shannon Rosenberg

Summer is here! How did we get here? It's hard to believe how quickly the time passes but do you want to know something that is NOT hard to believe? We've got the most amazing Mamas in Our Village and this month we're celebrating Shannon!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

My husband and I moved back home to RVA when our son was 6 months old and was looking for a workout that would fit into my new life. I went to grad school with another mama that is part of the FIT4MOM community and got really curious about the classes I saw her posting about. So, in January 2024, I joined FIT4MOM.

What do you love most about being part of this community?

Where do I begin... I love everything from the workouts, to the playtime after, to the fact that Reggie (my son) loves going to "our exercise classes." I feel like I have a space where I can show up authentically and feel accepted.

Who are you a mom to?

My sweet, wild, and vibrant little boy, Reggie.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Everything. Even on hard days, I find that there are pockets of joy and laughter. And it makes it all worth it.

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

Chapstick and my Kindle

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

The past.

How do you practice self-care?

I love acupuncture and massage. I also make sure I get outside daily and spend time in my garden.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I grew up in Beaverdam. It’s about 45 minutes northwest of Richmond.

How did becoming a mother change you?

Where do I begin…everything about me has changed and I'm learning to understand who this new version is. I worked really hard advancing my career and when I became a mother, I no longer wanted to spend my days working. I wanted to be with my son. My husband and I lived in Colorado before moving back, and a big part of why we moved was because I wanted to be with family and help foster Reggie’s relationships with them. I no longer care about the little things, like how clean my house is or if I have the coolest outfit on or how the laundry is folded. I feel that becoming a mother has grounded me more than anything and given me the ability to show up unconditionally for myself and others.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

The greatest book I’ve ever read was The Untethered Soul. This book was the catalyst to my healing journey. Greatest TV series… Friends.

How did you meet your partner?

We actually went to high school together, but didn’t know each other. In 2013 we met officially and dated for about a month. I moved to California and he moved to Colorado. In 2016, I moved to Colorado and we reconnected and the rest is history. :)

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A Vet.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

I have no idea, so I asked my mom and she said, “playing with Barbies, watching Disney movies, or riding my horse.”

Shannon, I love how you describe motherhood as grounding you - that is such a neat perspective. We are so glad you listened to your friend in grad school and joined Our Village!
