Motivational Mom of the Month - Shannon Petersen

It's March and officially the first day of Women's History Month! We believe in celebrating the accomplishments of women 365 but totally support a month dedicated to the cause.

This month we're highlighting and celebrating one of our awesome moms who can be found at almost every one of our classes including Run Club+! Please join us in getting to know our mama, Shannon Petersen!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

I found F4M as part of the open house at River Mill last spring.

What do you love most about being part of this community?

Meeting new people and the accountability and acceptance.

Who are you a mom to?

Brinley (10) and Delaney (6.5)

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Right now I love our girl time and creating a lifelong bond with them. They are at such great ages where the 3 of us can go out to shop or lunch and have fun together. I love watching their relationship grow. I hope the 3 off us continue to be this close as they grow up.

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

Sunscreen and a fully loaded Kindle.

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

Future!

How do you practice self-care?

F4M classes, running, and getting my nails done.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I grew up in Chesterfield and left for college (Shenandoah University) where Seth and I met. After college we lived in Northern Virginia until 2011 when we moved (back) to Richmond to be near my family.

How did becoming a mother change you?

I think I’m way more patient than before being a mom. Also becoming a mom has made me a bit more anxious as I’m constantly worried about something.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

Shrinking on Apple TV and I’ve been enjoying books by Colleen Hoover

How did you meet your partner?

We met at Shenandoah University - this year marks 20 years together (half our lives!!) and 14 years married.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Pediatrician - that’s a far cry from my career now.

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

Be Okay by Oh Honey - this song speaks to me at this moment in my life.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

Thinking about what my 6 year old would do makes me think I’d head straight to the pantry and eat all the sweets!!

Shannon, I love your answer of sunscreen and a fully loaded Kindle - sign me up! And I think we can all relate to having a tad bit more anxiety since becoming a mom!

Thank you for sharing a little more about yourself Shannon! We love seeing your smiling face in classes!
