Y'all, it's August! WHAT?! Summer is slipping away and school will be here before we know it!

Another thing that will be here before we know it... R U N 🏃🏿‍♀️C L U B! That's right! We're bringing Run Club back and we are so excited to welcome our new instructor, Sarah! Please join us in getting to know a little bit more about Sarah and what to expect from Run Club!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

I found Fit4Mom through an Instagram post of a college friend who instructs I’m northern Virginia! I have been interested for about a year but only started attending a few classes recently.

What do you love most about being part of this community?

I love moms supporting moms, meeting you where you are in your postpartum journey and just being there for each other!

Who are you a mom to?

Corley Elaina, 16 months old!

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Favorite thing.. I’d say just having this little person who looks at you and knows nothing else in the world but to fully and completely trust you and love you without a doubt. It’s the purest love I’ve ever experienced

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

Running shoes and my cell phone

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

Oh. Good question! I have no idea! But I think the past? Time already passes too quickly. It would be amazing to be able to travel back and spend time with those we’ve lost or just to be able to be in the memories that we cherish.

How do you practice self-care?

My running 100%. I am pretty dedicated to my early mornings and the group that holds me accountable for them. It’s my 1 hour of solitude and time that no one else needs me.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I grew up in Hanover (Montpelier) went to college in Radford and Roanoke and knew after living in Roanoke for 3 years I really wanted to live in the city before kids… Corley will be 2 in March…

How did becoming a mother change you?

I think it made me more flexible honestly. That the schedule didn’t always have to be cut and dry and that sometimes things are not going to go my way haha

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

Inventing Anna!

How did you meet your partner?

Whew! Well we went to elementary school together but started dating our senior year of high school! 4 years of college and 3 long distance in grad school and we have been married for 8 years this past May.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

At one point a teacher but for a long time I wanted to be a physical therapist (which I am), I always loved movement and helping people.

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

Hahaha lose yourself by Eminem. I loved old school Eminem, went to his concert when I was 16 (questionable parenting) and knew all of the lyrics to his songs

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

I have no idea? Probably eat something that we didn’t have growing up? I’ve always loved food

You're the new Run Club instructor. Why do you love running and how long have you been running?

I love running because it is my time to clear my head, to think and just be myself. It’s my time with friends and it gives me balance. I trained and ran my first marathon in 2010, hated it, ran a little in grad school and did a few halfs and then ran my second marathon in 2014. Moving to Richmond really expanded my love for running, so many places and people to run with here!

How has running changed for you since becoming a mom?

Being a SAHM I feel like it’s really the only time in the day that’s 100% about me

Can you tell us a little bit more about the upcoming session? When does it start and what can our moms expect?

Yes I’m so excited! Run club officially starts 9/11 with an optional run and a meet and greet! Thinking we can grab coffee and hang at the VMFA where we will be starting our runs for the season! We are trying to set up some great clinics for the moms to attend this year, nothing has been confirmed yet but looking at getting a running dietician to speak with the groups as well as a shoe clinic and maybe a pep talk with an AMAZING local mother runner!! Moms can sign up with a goal race of either the Richmond 8K or half marathon and this year we will be doing a Fit4Mom 5k which is included in the run club cost on 10/9 with official swag!!

Sarah, your love of running runs (pun intended) deep it seems! Between marathons and half marathons and running every morning...whew! That is dedication and we are so lucky to have you leading the way for our moms! Thank you for sharing a little bit about yourself!
