Motivational Mom of the Month - Sakina Paige

In this season of thankfulness, we want to express our deepest gratitude to all of the amazing mamas and their families who are a part of Our Village. Each and every one of you fill our cups and bring so much joy to our little community. We would not be who we are without you.

And now, please join us in getting to know one of our wonderful mamas, Sakina!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

I found it online and I joined when I was on parental leave with my first child. January 2019 is when I started with stroller strides.

What do you love most about being part of this community?

It fills my cup inside and out. I get a fun workout, which helps me with stress and being a better mom. I also get all kinds of great tips on childcare, recipes and life. I laugh a lot with my Fit4Mom friends and always feel supported.

Who are you a mom to?

Judah who’s 5 and Seraiah whose 20 months.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

I love so much that it is hard to pick one thing. I love our time in the car together especially when we sing songs together.

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

Music and books

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

I’d travel to the past and tell my mom thank you more for all that she did for me

How do you practice self-care?

Workouts are my favorite way to practice self-care. I also love audio books, massages, and talking to my cousin. I’m adding date nights to the list, because we don’t do them enough.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I grew up in NY and came to Virginia for college. I met my husband in college and followed him to Richmond.

How did becoming a mother change you?

I enjoy my everyday life more than I knew was possible. I also try to pause more and be grateful for the daily things I get to do with my kids and for my kids.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

I’m currently enjoying our book club pick Remarkably Bright Creatures. I would never have picked this book, and I’m so glad that I get to try new things with Fit4Mom. I’m enjoying it so much that I’m going to be sad when it is over.

How did you meet your partner?

We met as part of a college church ministry. I knew him for about 3 years and never wanted anything to do with him. Our friends forced us to go on our first date and we have been together ever since.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A lawyer and an actress.

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

They would laugh at how much I prioritize being a mom and a wife over my career, and how much happier I am with this decision. When I was growing up, I used to write in my journal how my career would be my top priority.

Sakina, I love that Fit4Mom has exposed you to new things, including new books, that you wouldn't have tried on your own! I will need to add that book to my TBR list!

We are so glad you found us online way back in 2019! Thank you for being such a valuable part of our community.
