Motivational Mom of the Month - Olga Kosachevsky

It's the month of L O V E and you know we L O V E our mamas!

As we welcome new moms into Our Village this month with our Share the Love Free Week we also want to celebrate the mamas who make Our Village what it is! Moms like this month's Motivational Mom, Olga! Please join us in getting to know her a little better.

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

I was a lonely mom, scouring the web for local in-person mom resources or groups. When Fit4Mom popped up I was skeptical at first because it seemed like just fitness classes. But when looked closely and saw that it is much more than that - I knew it was a good fit. I joined in July 2024.

What do you love most about being part of this community?

I love how well organized but also flexible this community is. I love the variety of activities that it offers. I love how it makes me feel uplifted and connected to other moms.

Who are you a mom to?

I am a mom to Oren, a boy, age 4.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Listening and watching my son laugh and giggle, including at his own jokes.

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

A tent and my laptop.

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

I would travel to very distant past, like ancient Egypt - to see if I can find out how they built the pyramids.

How do you practice self-care?

I listen to guided meditations, go for walks, read, watch shows and movies.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I grew up in Russia and Israel. I moved to Richmond when I was 18 because my father lived here.

How did becoming a mother change you?

Profoundly. I had rather negative perceptions of motherhood and did not believe that I was mom material for a long time. Becoming a mom turned my perceptions and understanding of many things in life completely on their head.

Are you a stay at home mom or do you work outside of the home?

I have a full time job (I am a technical writer) that is fully remote, so I do work, but actually from inside the home :).

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

Fatty Fatty Boom Boom: A Memoir of Food, Fat, and Family by Rabia Chaudry.

How did you meet your partner?

We met at work. I was assigned to work as his assistant. We were spending all day together at work which gradually evolved into spending all evenings together as well and then moving in together.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

For a while I thought I wanted to be a teacher so I could grade papers like I saw my grandmother do in the evenings (she was a math teacher). I thought that marking papers with red ink was so cool.

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

Gayatri Mantra by Deva Premal. Mantras are traditionally chanted in cycles of 108 repetitions because according to the Vedic scriptures, our physical and subtle bodies contain 108 major nadis, or energy channels. When a mantra is chanted 108 times, that sound vibration fills all of the energy lines and balances them. If this mantra played every time I walked into a room - it would be great way to keep my energy nice and balanced.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

She would try on all the clothes in the closet and put on all the jewelry.

If we wanted to say hi, which classes can we find you attending?

Strides 360 at Deep Run park is a class I attend most often. I also go to Body Boost and Body Ignite.

Olga, I love your answer to how motherhood has changed you. I know a lot of women can relate to not feeling like motherhood material (hi, me!) and then finding out it's pretty cool!

We're so glad you found us scrolling the internet! We really are so much more than fitness classes and it's because of moms like you!
