Motivational Mom of the Month - Lindsay Vidler

2024 is coming to a close and what a year it's been! We've had playgroups and mom's night outs. Book clubs and field trips. Pool parties and pumpkin patches. And through it all, we've had the most amazing Mamas in Our Village.

We're ending the year strong with this month's Motivational Mom, Lindsay! Please join us in getting to know her better.

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

A friend of mine, Lindsey Wiggins, encouraged me to go in 2016 when my son, Carson was 1 year old. He was premature with several complications so I had barely left the house with him prior to this. At the time, I was eating (& drinking!!!) too much as well as putting exercise as my last priority so I was super nervous to attend this first class!

What do you love most about being part of this community?

The other moms who know exactly how tired and overwhelmed I can feel by being a parent. I never feel alone with all the sweet moms in the group!

Who are you a mom to?

Carson who is 9 and Kinsley who is 6! (Wow, that's hard to believe as I type it!)

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Pulling the inner child out of me! I don’t think I ever truly grew up haha I still love playing games, finding adventures, exploring and being loud & ridiculous - basically anything Bandit does on Bluey, I’ll do! :)

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

Devotional bible & pictures.

Through the ups and downs of parenthood I’ve found that God is my never-changing, always-loving rock. I’ve always “gone to church” but I never had a relationship with -whatever you may call a higher power- like I do now, and it’s been pretty amazing!

Pictures to remind me of my family and friends to encourage me to swim off the island back home :)

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

Ohhh good question! I used to think life was so great as a child and it’s so hard as a parent but recently I’ve changed my perspective and I’d have to say the present/future is the best. Hindsight is amazing - We live life forward but understand it backwards.

How do you practice self-care?

Exercise and healthy eating (most of the time). I also love to drink water and recently really started taking care of my teeth lol I finally started to listen to my dentist and floss daily

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

Grew up 5 miles from where I live now. Haha never imagined that would be the case but I met my now husband and his job keeps us here. I wouldn’t change it for the world now though.

How did becoming a mother change you?

Oh gosh, the easier question is how did it NOT change me! The biggest change I think I’ve learned is selflessness. I never knew how self-absorbed and selfish my motives were until I had kids haha

Are you a stay at home mom or do you work outside of the home?

Stay at home mom with a few side gigs :) Teach a movement class at All Saints Preschool twice a week and sub every now and then at Shady Grove Preschool.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

Hmmm the only “grown up” show I watch is Big Bang Theory haha and every book I read is a “self help” book - I love trying to better myself and find the happiest/best version of myself. My most recent is Power Thoughts by Joyce Meyer.

How did you meet your partner?

Playing beer pong at a mutual friends house, he says I put my phone number in his phone, but I don’t remember that (whoops!)

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A meteorologist - didn’t happen 😂

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

All I Want for Christmas by Mariah Carey

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

swim, kick a soccer ball & go to a playground

If we wanted to say hi, which classes can we find you attending?

The Sunday morning Run Group & Thursday morning St.Chris track workout. Both are SO good and fun!

Lindsay, I love your answer on how mother has changed you or better yet, how has it not. I do, however, think I would go insane listening to All I Want for Christmas over and over for the rest of my life 🤣

We're so glad you found us way back in 2016 and continue to share your light with all of us at Run Club!
