It's time to highlight another amazing mom in Our Village. Meet this month's Motivational Mom of the Month - Leah Sorya!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

Through an old acquaintance! I joined in spring of 2025 (almost a year now!!)

What do you love most about being part of this community?

I really love the endless love and support as well as being surrounding by so many inspiring and magnificent women. I’ve made some of the kindest friends and most genuine connections in years.

Who are you a mom to?

Samnang, he is 1.5 years old (and then some fur babies too - Indy 🐶 Bean🐱 & Jacques 🐱 )

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Literally everything. I’m the girl of the house and the HBIC. I got the cutest lil buddy who is a 50/50 of me and my best friend. He makes me laugh nonstop and smile ear to ear. Most of all he has really forced me to slow down and enjoy the little things in life. He’s taking in everything for the first time and experiencing that with him is such a special joy.

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

A ukulele and a big sun hat

How did becoming a mother change you?

Motherhood radicalized me even more than I was before. The love and respect I had for women skyrocketed after matrescence. I honestly feel like I’ve blossomed from your average feminist to a full blown matriarchist. I am so deeply pro women and immensely proud of every woman I meet, whether she’s a new friend or absolute stranger. My capacity for compassion and empathy quadrupled from motherhood.

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

Future!

How do you practice self-care?

Love a hot yoga session, a facial the next day (s/o Taylor at WynnSkin) and then a nice gossip session with the trees

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

Arlington, VA 🤮 ➡️ to RVA for VCUarts

Are you a stay at home mom or do you work outside of the home?

I am a stay at home mom!

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

We just finished the live action One Piece and I have no notes. 10/10

How did you meet your partner?

We met through our friend at a bar I used to live above and frequented often. It was called Baliceaux (ifykyk)

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Bold of you to assume I thought I’d make it this far!

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

Pure/Honey by Beyoncé from Renaissance 😛🏳️‍🌈

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

Probably head to my closet to judge how I dress
