Motivational Mom of the Month - Jessica Carter

And just like that... it's JULY! We love summer for it's long days, more relaxed schedules and getting to see more of our teacher Mamas at class like our July Motivational Mom of the Month, Jessica!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

My sister-in-law is a member of FIT4MOM Annapolis and she told me about how much she enjoyed the playdates after the workouts. When I was ready to start working out again after having my son, Lucas, I decided to give FIT4MOM Richmond a shot! I have been a member for almost two years now!

What do you love most about being part of this community?

There's no judgement! Whether your kid is screaming the entire class, you forgot to pack snacks, or anything in between, these mamas get it and are happy to help however they can.

Who are you a mom to?

Lucas, who will be three in September!

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

When Lucas sees me and his eyes light up and he runs over as fast as he can to give me a hug. It's crazy to love someone more than life itself and know you are their favorite person in the entire world.

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

My family and endless supply of good books.

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

I would definitely travel to the future. It would be nice to know what's going to happen so I can stop worrying about it lol

How do you practice self-care?

I enjoy reading and baking.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I am originally from Newport News, VA. After my husband, Kevin, and I got engaged, we decided to move to Richmond to be in the middle of both of our families.

How did becoming a mother change you?

I have always been someone who has both eyes set on the future. Becoming a mom has reset that focus some and I am learning how to be more present so that I can enjoy all of these precious little moments here and now.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

I recently finished reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and loved it! I am currently watching the newest season of Bridgerton and am enjoying that as well (I read that series last year!).

How did you meet your partner?

Kevin and met through mutual friends when we were living in the same dorm (Pritchard Hall) during our freshman year at Virginia Tech.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Equine Veterinarian

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

Lauren Alaina - Road Less Traveled. This song always gets me pumped no matter what is going on and it remind me that it's ok to do something different than what is expected of me and to not worry so much about what others think of me.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

Go to the store and buy a week's worth of Spaghetti O's and Chef Boyardee Ravioli because no one can tell me I have to eat vegetables for dinner.

Jessica, first of all...GO HOKIES! I'm dating myself a bit but when I went to Tech, Pritchard was a male only dorm and also where my husband lived when he was there!

I love how you said motherhood has made you more present - I think we can always use that reminder! We're so glad your sister-in-law convinced you to try our FIT4MOM and we're so glad to have you as a part of Our Village!
