Motivational Mom of the Month - Emily Sink

Happy June! Summer if officially here and we can't wait to soak up all the fun (and sun!) with Our Village! There's so much to be excited about...including our new instructor, Emily!

Please join us in getting to know her a bit better!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond, and how long have you been a part of our village?

I found FIT4MOM through The Mom Walk Co. Natalie sponsored one of the walks and she shared more info about F4M. I was intrigued, so I took my first free class with Becky at Maymont; I was hooked! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and I really enjoyed getting a solid workout outdoors, while being with my baby!

What do you love most about being part of this community?

Where do I even begin?...I think the part I love most is that my daughter gets a ton of social interaction and I can get in a good workout at the same time. All the moms have similar values and goals, and F4M provides a platform for various types of activities and interactions.

Who are you a mom to?

I'm mom to a 16-month-old little firecracker. She's a kind, smart, brave and beautiful girl. I will be mom to TWO more little girls this fall; we're expecting twins! We also have a small rescue mutt, who was definitely my first child (she has her own closet!). You can also follow her on instagram @kikitheminipup

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Everything, honestly. I was born to be a mom! It's truly a fulfilling role and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I love living life through my daughter's eyes and watching her grow and develop.

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

My chapstick and my phone.

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

I would travel back to any of my former life stages: college, living and working on the Outer Banks, or living and working abroad in China. They were all a blast and I learned a lot.

How do you practice self-care?

I enjoy staying active through working out, hiking, or biking, being in or by the water, and spending time with my family and friends. I get re-energized by planning my days/weeks/months, traveling, attending events, and taking care of my nails, either at home or at the salon.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I was actually born in South Korea, but I grew up in a small town a little northwest of Richmond. After college, I lived in the Outer Banks and spent a year teaching English in China. I ended up back in Richmond in the Human Resources field. Knowing I would always return to the area, Richmond became my permanent home. Both my husband and I have roots, family, and friends here, and we love everything our "little big town" has to offer.

How did becoming a mother change you?

Becoming a mother changed me in so many ways -- for the better. I'm more patient, responsible, and understanding. I'm also more grateful. Motherhood is truly life-changing. I wish everyone could experience it.

Are you a stay at home mom or do you work outside of the home?

I'm technically a stay-at-home mom, but I prefer to call myself an "on-the-go mom," because although I'm a full-time parent, we're ALWAYS out and about doing various activities and socializing! I was recently certified as a Stroller Strides instructor, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching with FIT4MOM Richmond on a part-time basis.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

Lately, I've been watching Bar Rescue and Poker Face. I'm excited for the premiere of the new season of "The Summer I Turned Pretty."

How did you meet your partner?

My husband and I actually met on Bumble (an app where the female reaches out first). I opened it up with a corny line and the rest is history. Even though we met after college, we actually grew up just miles from each other. We like to joke that we probably rubbed shoulders somewhere around town before we actually met. He is an amazing father, and I adore him.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a vet. I've always been an animal lover.

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

Hmm...I love 90s and early 2000s country. My all-time favorite song is "American Girl" by Trisha Yearwood. So either that or an Alabama song.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

Riding my bike, frolicking outside, and eating some sort of gummy-like candy. I mean, it all sounds pretty enticing to my current self.

If we wanted to say hi, which classes can we find you attending?

I try to attend Stroller Barre on Mondays to start off the week and Stroller Strides on either Tuesdays or Thursdays, and (I teach) some Saturdays. I also enjoy the intensity of Strides 360, but I don't make it often while pregnant.

I love all the GIRL POWER in your house, Emily! That's also really cool you got to live in China for a year! We're so glad you found Our Village and love having you on the team!
