Motivational Mom of the Month - Amanda Harris

Happy October! It's the month of witches and ghosts and goblins but it's also the month of celebrating another awesome mama in Our Village! Join us in getting to know Amanda!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

I found FIT4MOM Richmond by recommendation from my Pelvic Floor Health Specialist, Dr. Casey, at Fettle and Fit. Don’t neglect your pelvic health, Mommas!!

Eli and I have been a part of the F4M village since May of 2024.

What do you love most about being part of this community?

The friendships I have made. I also really enjoy the social events and having a group of moms I can connect with whenever I am feeling lonely or stir crazy.

Who are you a mom to?

I am mom to Eli! He will be two in November. He is adventurous and kind. He loves all his friends at F4M.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

I love seeing the world through the eyes of a child. Sharing experiences with Eli and seeing his eyes light up over the simple things we take for granted every day makes the world such a magical place.

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

I would bring sunscreen (insert skin cancer awareness plug here).

Oh! Mental health supports - books and SSRI medications because I will be LOSING IT alone on that island. I’ve seen Castaway - I know how this goes

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

I would like to travel to the future I think! It would be cool to see future generations of my family that I would not live long enough to meet.

Also, no one bathed very much in the past and my nose can’t handle that. Also, diseases.

How do you practice self-care?

I love to exercise and cozy up with a good book! Both activities quiet all the noise.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

RVA girl born and raised!

How did becoming a mother change you?

Maybe this question should be what DIDN’T change? LOL!

I would say the biggest change is that I used to be hyper fixated on achieving goals and pressuring myself to do more all the time. Motherhood has really taught me to slow down and to be present in the moment. I have tried to stop living in the future. The present is so short and is such a sweet place to be. Tomorrow always makes a way for itself.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

Dark on Netflix! I love science fiction thriller shows.

How did you meet your partner?

We met at church youth group in 2007! We have been together ever since.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a mom and a teacher! I have now had the pleasure of being in both of those roles in adulthood.

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

The Way You Make Me Feel by Michael Jackson. Iconic, sexy, and the absolute best hype song.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would they do first?

Stay up late, raid the pantry, and watch the “grown up” shows that were off limits as a kid.

Amanda, I love your answer to 'how has motherhood changed you?' because honestly...how has it not is so true! I also love your song choice!

We're so glad you found us through Fettle and Fit and yes, take care of those pelvic floors ladies!
