Motivational Mom of the Month - Ali Moore

Happy August! Can you believe we're already in August, wrapping up summer and sending the kids back to school in a matter of weeks? Don't blink y'all! ;)

This month we're taking a moment to celebrate one of our FIT4MOM family members. We can't believe she hasn't already been featured as she plays a big part in Our Village by planning and leading some of the cutest playgroups.

Your Mom of the Month is - Ali Moore!

Please join us in getting to know her a little bit better!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

I found FIT4MOM through the Summer Teacher Pass a few years ago. For a couple of years, I would join in the summer, but this past year I became a member during the school year. As of February, I have been a Village Coordinator alongside Amanda.

What do you love most about being part of this community?

As a stay at home mom, it is super important to me that my kids are around the same consistent group of kids. I also love the socialization aspect and all of the opportunities to explore Richmond with my friends and their adorable babies.

Who are you a mom to?

I am mom to my son, Dominic, who is 2 and my daughter, Swayzie, who is 1.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

I love being around them and seeing what makes them curious, laugh, or engaged. Their bond is so close and I love how much fun they have together. I live for the snuggles, cute sayings, big hugs, and giggles.

What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

I’d bring my husband and kids. Misery loves company.

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

I am too afraid of the future as it is. I’d travel to the past and spend time with my grandparents.

How do you practice self-care?

My husband inevitably falls asleep by 8:30 each night, so I get my me time in at night. I mainly watch bad reality tv and catch up with whatever I missed on my phone that day.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I was born in Pennsylvania and lived there until I was 10. I lived in Georgia until moving to Richmond in 2018. I moved here to be with my now husband as we were doing long distance from Richmond to Georgia.

How did becoming a mother change you?

It changes literally everything about my day to day, but overall, the love I have for two little humans is so incredibly overwhelming and I am realizing how precious time is.

Are you a stay at home mom or do you work outside of the home?

I do both. Dominic and Swayzie are home with me full time throughout the week, but I also work 5 small part time jobs. I work at VCU as an instructor and will be teaching Children’s Literature to education majors this fall. Also through VCU, I supervise a few students during their student teaching program. I tutor at my house, substitute teach for the elementary school I used to teach at, and I am a Village Coordinator for FIT4MOM. I am very thankful for supportive and helpful grandparents and my husband that allow me to both.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

I love that FIT4MOM has a book club and I would definitely recommend joining us if you haven’t already. I loved the book we read a few months ago called Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I was also sat for the most recent Love Island season.

How did you meet your partner?

Ben and I met 10 years ago to the month at an adult summer camp called Camp No Counselors in Nashville. He came from Richmond with 4 friends and I came from Georgia with 4 friends and we, and our friend groups, hit it off.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Before being a stay at home mom, I was a classroom teacher for 13 years. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. My mom is a retired teacher and my brothers and sister-in-law are currently teachers.

If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

Alison by Elvis Castello, no need to formally introduce myself.

If we wanted to say hi, which classes can we find you attending?

I attend stroller friendly classes and can be found at playgroups.

Ali, we're loving your answer about what you'd bring on a deserted island. Seriously cracking up over here! Thank you SO much for all you do to build and nourish our amazing little community we have. We'll all very lucky to have you!
