Everyone talks about their “bounce back” experience after having a baby - especially their first. They share how they lost a large amount of weight after delivery. How simple exercises and breastfeeding were the key solutions to their weight lost. You thought, “recovery does not sound too bad.” Hearing these stories can make postpartum recovery sound easy.
Then, your bundle of joy arrives, and you could not be happier.
Yet, when you look in the mirror weeks or even months later, you realize you still look pregnant. You may ask yourself, “why does my body look like this?”
Despite the sugar-coated stories, numerous women experience this struggle. What some may not realize is that they are facing a condition called diastasis recti. This condition occurs when the abdominal muscles separate along the midline of the stomach. During pregnancy, the connective tissue known as the linea alba thins and stretches to accommodate a growing baby. In fact, it is so common that it is often deemed unavoidable. (Gruszczyńska, 2021)
