Motivational Mom of the Month: Megan Collins

Happy November, Mamas! Today we get to learn more about one of our favorite Stroller Strides members and soon to be mom of two, Megan Collins!

Hi Megan! How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village? When I decided I was going to leave my full time job, I started searching for all the mommy and me activities I could find and that’s when I came across FIT4MOM Richmond. It seemed like the perfect match and I joined my first week home with my son! That was a little over a year ago now.

What do you love most about being part of this community? Meeting other moms. I love that there is always someone who has gone through whatever stage you are going through or is currently going through it too. Venting to other moms who know exactly what you are talking about has really helped me make the transition from full time working mom to full time stay at home mom.

Who are you a mom to? CJ (Christopher Collins, Jr) and Baby Girl Collins. CJ is an energetic and sweet boy who loves all the trucks, cars, and tractors. I am due with our second, a girl, on December 21st.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom? I love watching CJ grow and learn. It seems like everyday there is something new.

Do you feel ready to become a mom of two? Not really haha. That’s why I’m so thankful for this community! There are several moms who just had their second and there are quite a few of us pregnant mamas getting ready to have our second so I know I have a lot of moms I can go to for support!

Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or one hundred duck-sized horses? Probably one hundred duck-sized horses. A horse-sized duck just sounds terrifying.

How do you stay fit when you're not working out with FIT4MOM? We live near Carytown so we love to go for walks through that area on the weekend.

How do you practice self-care? When I’m not pregnant, a glass of red wine and a good Bravo show after CJ goes to bed. During this pregnancy I have tried to rest when CJ naps.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond? I was born and raised in Fredericksburg, VA. After undergrad at UVA I came to VCU to get my Master’s degree in Accountancy and fell in love with Richmond.

How did becoming a mother change you? I have definitely learned (and am still learning) to be more patient and not worry so much about the small stuff.

What is your favorite thing about fall? The cooler weather and college football! Go Hoos!

Did CJ dress up for Halloween? Did you? Pictures please! CJ was Chase from Paw Patrol.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? Homemade mashed potatoes

What does a typical Thanksgiving with your family look like? Thanksgiving with my family looks a little crazy. For as long as I can remember we always get together with my mom's side of the family and she has five siblings. There has always been a big crowd and it is only getting larger as me and my cousins/brothers are having children of own.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched? My husband and I just finished Jack Ryan on Amazon.

How did you meet your husband? Tell me about your first date. We meet through mutual friends over a classy game of beer pong. Our first official date was brunch a few weeks later at Water Coastal Kitchen (now East Coast Provisions).

What did you want to be when you grew up? A veterinarian, until I realized how much school you had to go through.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would she do first? Eat all the leftover Halloween candy, pretty much the same thing my pregnant self is doing!

Thanks for chatting with us today, Megan! I'll be right there with you this month, gorging myself on leftover Halloween candy and mashed potatoes! We can't wait to meet your little girl next month!
