Motivational Mom of the Month - Katherine Agelasto

Hey Mamas! Please join me in welcoming our June Motivational Mom of the Month, Katherine Agelasto! If you’ve had the privilege of meeting Katherine you know how warm and welcoming she is. She is the definition of motivational as she shows up to Stroller Strides and powers through her allowed exercises...but I’ll let her elaborate on that...

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

A few weeks after having Kate a good friend of mine came over and told me that I needed to have a "schedule" or I would go crazy! She was definitely speaking from experience and I asked her what she meant exactly. It was at that point that she told me about Stroller Strides and how it truly helped her after she had her first child. I started my "schedule" with Stroller Strides when Kate as about 3-4 months old and continued for about a year and a half. Unfortunately my back problems returned and I had to stop going to SS, started intensive physical therapy and now I'm back with Camp.

What do you love most about being part of this community?

I had no idea how hard being a stay at home mom could be-especially now with 2 kids under 2.5 years old. Once I get out of the house (working on lowering the 45 minutes it takes me to get both kids ready and out of the house!!!) and "circle up" for Stroller Strides I instantly feel better. It's hard to pinpoint what I love the most about this wonderful village, but if I had to chose one thing it would have to be talking to other moms and realizing that I am not experiencing this #momlife alone. We can commiserate about the insanity of our children's antics, laugh at the silly things our husbands have said/done and ask other moms a kid related question-because let's face it another mom is going to give you the most accurate and honest answer to any question!

Who are you a mom to?

I'm a mom to Kate who will be 2.5 this month and Camp who will be 3 months next week.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

My favorite thing would have to be seeing and experiencing the world through the eyes of my children. Every experience is new to them and I love to watch their eyes grow with excitement.

Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or one hundred duck-sized horses?

No question-one horse-sized duck! I think I would lose my mind trying to fight off 100 duck-sized horses!

How do you stay fit when you're not working out with FIT4MOM?

I am working to get back into the full swing of fitness! Right now I am going to physical therapy once a week and focusing on those exercises. I am also trying to walk in my neighborhood and get back into swimming....slowly but surely!

How do you practice self-care?

Self-care....what's that ;)..... like all of us I don't have a ton of free time to myself but I try to make time to get together with my girlfriends or get my nails done. My husband always says that whenever I have time by myself and go out with my friends or get my nails done I seem to come back "nicer and more relaxed" so that must mean it's doing something good for me!

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I grew up in Fredericksburg, went to JMU and then VCU for grad school and never left!

How did becoming a mother change you?

Being a mom takes a lot of planning and making sure you have everything you may need in any given situation. I thought I had always been a good planner but being a mom has taken planning to a whole new level!

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

I just finished watching She's Dead to Me on Netflix and I really liked it. I don't think I have read a book (other than baby/parenting books) since Kate as born but I hope to get back into reading this summer.

How did you meet your husband?

We met at the first annual bacon festival through a mutual friend. After we were introduced he never looked my way or said anything to me....so I figured he wasn't interested. But a week later my phone rang and it was him and the rest is history!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a doctor.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would she do first?

My five-year-old self would be so happy to eat junk food for every meal of the day!

Katherine, we love having you and your bright personality in Our Village! And you motivate us all with how strong you have been in dealing with your back issues. I wish I could offer you some advice on how to get out of the door in under 45 minutes but let’s be real...toddlers :P
