Motivational Mom of the Month- Devin Pilson

Because our amazing and talented Playgroup Captain, Devin Pilson, is a lover of all things Fall and Halloween, it just made sense for her to be our October Motivational Mom of the month! If you're not already in love with Devin, you will be when you read her funny, honest thoughts and see her as a baby skunk! Read on!

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village? I have been with the village since February of this year, and oh how I wish we had joined sooner! I first heard of Stroller Strides through a mama facebook group and was only convinced I could try it after some words of confidence from village member Carly Walker. (thanks, Carly! :)

What is your role at FIT4MOM? I took on the Playgroup Captain role in September. I look forward to planning more fun and educational get togethers for our little ones. ( and mama's too!)

What do you love most about being part of this community? The people, that sense of community --- making friends, and of course, the workouts are awesome!

Who are you a mom to? I'm mom to Piper! She'll be 18 months old on the 12th. She's the perfect little blend of silly, sassy and sweet. She's quite the chatter box, loves reading, dancing, and singing, and is too clever for her own good. She too LOVES to start her morning at Stroller Strides with her friends.

Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or one hundred duck-sized horses? Either because they both sound SO cute - I would try to wrangle & tame them because who doesn't want a pet giant duck or miniature horses?

What gets you out of bed every day? Family.

How do you stay fit when you're not working out with FIT4MOM? Running after my child, mostly, but we really enjoy hiking as a family when we have the opportunity.

How do you practice self-care? Always a hot bath, usually a good beer. Saltwater, if time permits.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond? I grew up in northern Fauquier County on a working family farm - my whole family still lives on the property! After college I lived in the Outer Banks for a bit, where I finished up everything with a final internship. I loved it and ended up staying much longer than planned. After that (winter of 2009) a couple of my sorority sisters and I decided to move to Richmond. Curt moved here shortly after me, and eventually we moved in together. So, we just kind of landed here.

What is something you're proud of?.... Jonah Hill retweeted me once. Does that count? LOL

How did becoming a mother change you? There's 1,000 amazing things Motherhood has done for me. It truly is the greatest blessing. The immediate thought that comes to mind is that I'm a puddle of emotions these days. Like 24/7. I cry at commercials like anytime at all.

What is your favorite thing about fall? EVERYTHING! The foliage, apple picking, pumpkin spiced lattes, the traditional events, sweater weather. Better question is what do I NOT like about Fall and that answer is NOTHING!

When was the last time you dressed up for Halloween? Last year Curt and I went to the Wes Anderson party at Quirk and dressed up like Richie and Margot Tenenbaum.

What was your favorite Halloween costume of all time? Pics please. Hmm it's a toss up, We've always been really into Halloween. Probably my Skunk outfit my mom made when I was just 14 months. It was so cute - the picture can not quite do it justice!

Does Piper have a costume picked out yet? Not yet, but we've got a few ideas. Last year she was a flower pot and it was adorable!

What were your favorite and least favorite subjects in school? Favorite - English, Least Favorite - Math

How did you meet your husband? Tell me about your first date. I met Curt my first week at Radford. We were friends for several months (playing cat and mouse) before we started dating!! Our first official date was when he asked me to be his date to one of his Fraternity's formals. We've been together for 13 years total and married for 5.

What makes you and your husband work? We're best friends first and everything else falls into place from there!

What did you want to be when you grew up? A Princess.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would she do first? Probably go straight to Pizza Hut :)

Thanks for sharing yourself with us, Devin! Between your love of Halloween, beer and bath, your childhood obsession with Pizza Hut, and your fascination with tiny horses and horse sized ducks, I feel like we are seriously soul sisters! We can't wait to see the Pilson family costumes this year!

Hope you enjoyed learning more about the newest member of the FIT4MOM team!
