Motivational Mom of the Month - Amanda Rhodes

Happy August Mamas! We’re holding on to the last little bit of summer. And one of the ways we’re doing that is with our super fun play groups with water, and ice and sharks...OH MY! Amanda is our Southside playgroup captain and she’s our August Motivational Mom of the Month.

How did you find FIT4MOM Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

I've always heard great things about FIT4MOM from my cousin Rosemary who is a Play Captain and very involved in her group in Silver Spring, MD. Then Natalie came to my MOPS group last January to do a Body Back workout and I immediately loved it! A few weeks later I ran into her at Huguenot Park when she was researching locations for Southside and I asked her if she did playgroup and she said "Yes! Do you want to lead it down here?" I knew it was a perfect opportunity for me and I've been doing Stroller Strides since our Grand Opening in Southside back in April.

What do you love most about being part of this community?

I love coming together with other moms every week to workout, connect about the highs and lows of motherhood, and just have fun! Everyone is so welcoming and encouraging. It's also a great workout plus my daughter loves watching and is constantly playing "workout" at home. I hear the phrase "Ok ladies!" a lot at my house! ;)

Who are you a mom to?

Haidyn, 2.5 years old

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Watching Haidyn learn and grow into her own little personality.

Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or one hundred duck-sized horses?

One hundred duck-sized horses?

How do you stay fit when you're not working out with FIT4MOM?

My husband and I use our sunroom as a home workout space and just chasing Haidyn around all day!

How do you practice self-care?

I love reading and try to squeeze in a few minutes either first thing in the morning before Haidyn wakes up or right before bed.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I grew up here in Richmond and knew I wanted to be close to family and friends after college so I found a job at my own Elementary School when I graduated.

How did becoming a mother change you?

I've learned I don't need to be constantly "productive" with a never-ending to do list accomplished at the end of each day to be successful. It's taken a long time, but I can finally feel that if I've spent my day providing Haidyn with an engaging day meeting her needs, that is just as successful as a day of checking tons of things off my to-do list.

What is the last great book or television series you've read/watched?

Big Little Lies Season 2 (the book is great too!) and Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

How did you meet your husband?

We met at a party at Va Tech our freshmen year.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Teacher

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would she do first?

Run outside to play!

Umm, Big Little Lies is SO good...book and TV series. And I didn’t know you were a Hokie! Go Tech! Thanks for taking the time to tell us a little bit more about you Amanda! And thanks for the awesome play groups :)
