Fit4Mom of the Month: Allison Carver

Good Morning Ladies,

We're so excited to have Allison as our December Mom of the Month! She has some really exciting things happening in her life this month, and we can't wait for her to share them with you! Read on to find out more about this awesome mompreneur:

How did you find Fit 4 Mom Richmond and how long have you been a part of our village?

I became good friends with Natalie through our church and she introduced me to this amazing company!

What do you love most about Fit 4 Mom?

The village and support I feel! I have met the most amazing women and they have all been incredible. Plus, Natalie is amazing and so inspiring.

Tell us about a Taste of Therapy? How did you discover the connection between therapy and cooking?

I have always loved cooking and have felt that it calmed me when I needed it. And we always cooked as a family. I can remember my Mom talking to me about certain problems or ways to help me manage while in the kitchen. Once I graduated from grad school and entered into the therapy world, I thought it might serve my clients in the same way.

I started small with my adolescent clients, talking about food, eating in session with them, and having them make simple dishes in my office during session. It was very basic in the beginning. We were making dips and no bake desserts in my office! (haha!) But, I began to notice them relax, trust me more, and open up. I knew right then and there, this was something. It took me about 2 years to bring A Taste of Therapy to what it is today. Now, I work mostly with couples offering them specific recipes that they can make that will help solve 5 of the most common relationship problems. I find it to be a great way to bring out what is really going on. Clients find it fun, creative, and approachable. These aren't the words typically thought about when going to therapy!

What are you up to right now?

I have been working hard on creating, Cook In! This is a cooking date night membership service. You will get a themed date night recipe delivered to your mailbox once a month. You and your partner will make the food together and sit and enjoy it from the comfort of your own home. I have included a themed playlist, movie suggestions, wine and beer pairings, as well as interesting conversation starters. I am also so excited to say that I have joined the Mama Retreat Team! I cannot wait!

I can't wait to get my husband in the kitchen with me! When will the Cook-In be available for purchase?

It became available on December 1, 2017. www.cookintonight.com

Yay! I'll definitely be signing up this week. Now that we know about your amazing business, tell us more about you and your family:

Who are you a mom to?

Blair (3) and Leigh (9 months)

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Richmond?

I grew up in Richmond. I went away for college, Penn State and UVA, but came back to RVA after. Good thing too, because that is how I met my husband. We talk about moving from time to time, but we have such wonderful family, friends, and support system here.

How did you meet your husband? Tell me about your first date.

We met on a blind date! I was a bridesmaid in a wedding with a girl who worked with Ben. The whole weekend she kept telling me that I had to meet him, and I had no idea why she was so persistant? I was not into blind dates and felt like there must be something wrong with him since he was single. She eventually wore me down and I agreed to meet him. A large group of us met for drinks the following weekend and the minute I saw him, I thought, wow, he's not so bad at all! My first and last blind date.

What were you like in high school?

I was fun, outgoing, and friends with everyone. I was also SUPER involved with a million things, clubs, marching band, student government. Seriously. It's pretty embarassing. I was also prom queen. I only mention that because a bunch of my friends stuffed the ballot box, which I think is amazing and hilarious.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

An actress.

Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or one hundred duck-sized horses?

One hundred duck-sized horses for sure.

What was your favorite dish from this Thanksgiving?

It's a toss up always between the sweet potatoes and the stuffing.

Have you started your Christmas shopping?

Um, not at all.

What is Santa bringing this year?

A sold out Cook In Subscription year!

What is your favorite winter holiday tradition?

Going to get fancy coffee and then looking at tacky Christmas lights

What is the best purchase you've ever made?

My first car, a cherry red Volkswagon Jetta. I was so proud of that car, and I bought and paid it off completely by myself.

If your five-year-old self suddenly found themselves inhabiting your current body, what would she do first?

Go on an Easter Egg hunt. I was so good at those.

Which celebrity, dead or alive, would you love to have coffee with?

Kate Middleton!!

Thanks so much for chatting with us, Allison! Please go check out out her website: www.cookintonight.com to get all the details on Cook In, and look for her at our next Mama Retreat!
